Energy – The Tensions Between Renewable and Non-Renewable

Abstract

Developed and developing governments seek to achieve SDGs, climate targets, and net zero by 2050. In this context, Egypt focuses on significant energy-related objectives, such as improved energy security, increased renewables and hydrogen, and upgraded energy efficiency. Thus, this chapter aims to analyze Egypt’s low-carbon energy transition via studying the tensions between nonrenewable and renewable energy. This is achieved by reviewing Egypt’s energy industry through investigating the primary energy demand and supply, energy subsidies’ effects on Egypt’s economy, and phasing out energy subsidies. Besides, it discusses the policies adopted by Egypt’s policymakers to enhance the clean energy transition and refers to the challenges confronting Egypt’s clean energy transition. Proposed implementation mechanisms and policies for sustainable energy transition followed them.
