He advised several governments on different trade policy issues, and helped in capacity building programs in a number of countries. In November 2018, he went back to Egypt, as a Professor of Economics at Cairo University. In August 2020, he was appointed as the head of the economic authority of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC).
