The Dynamics of Socioeconomic Inequality of Malnutrition in Egypt

Abstract

This chapter delves into the persistent issue of malnutrition which presents significant public health concerns and economic implications in Egypt. Our research focuses on the period from 2000 to 2014 and examines the socioeconomic disparities in malnutrition among Egyptian women of reproductive age. To dissect the evolution of these disparities, we employ two analytical tools: the health concentration index and Wagstaff’s health shortfall index. Furthermore, we probe the underlying determinants of these socioeconomic health inequalities utilizing a recentered influence function regression method. The findings of our study carry implications for public health policies, aiming at promoting equitable health outcomes.
