Official Launch of The Oxford Handbook of the Egyptian Economy at the American University in Cairo

A special milestone for the Egypt Economic Development and Policies (EDP) Project!

On September 10, 2026, we celebrated the official launch of The Oxford Handbook of the Egyptian Economy, hosted by The School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at The American University in Cairo. For the EDP Project, this launch marks years of research and collaboration under the leadership of Dr. Rana Hendy.

Edited by Prof. Mahmoud Mohieldin, Prof. Marcelo Giugale, and Prof. Racha Ramadan, and published by Oxford University Press, the Handbook brings together 43 chapters on the Egyptian economy, written to inform future research and policy.

The launch gathered economists, academics, policymakers and development partners to discuss the Handbook's findings and what they mean for Egypt's challenges and opportunities ahead.
