Edited by Prof. Mahmoud Mohieldin, Dr. Marcelo Giugale, and Prof. Racha Ramadan, the handbook brings together contributions from more than 69 leading economists, researchers, and policymakers across 43 chapters.

Covering seven decades of Egypt’s economic history, the volume examines key dimensions of development through six thematic areas: macroeconomic fundamentals; sectoral reforms and competitiveness; human development; poverty and inequality; environmental and spatial issues; and governance.

Join the launch online for a presentation of the volume's key findings and a discussion with distinguished experts on the path ahead for Egypt's economic development.

“The Egypt Economic Development and Policies (EDP) project offers a comprehensive view of Egypt's economic landscape, covering its past, present, and prospects. It seeks to illuminate Egypt's economic journey and provide a roadmap for future growth and development.”

Project Objectives

The project is facilitating the process of delivering several products, including:

A comprehensive English language handbook on the evolution of the Egyptian economy over the last several decades;
